Hand-carved from cottonwood root and hand painted by Hopi artist Colleen Talahytewa, this Hilili Kachina is depicted in a dancing motion while holding yucca stalks in each hand. The carving is finished with carefully painted traditional designs that highlight the artist's attention to detail and craftsmanship. As Hopi Kachina carving is traditionally practiced by men, works by female carvers such as Colleen Talahytewa are relatively uncommon and especially noteworthy.
